Myofascial Release and Somatic Bodywork in Indianapolis

Hands-on nervous system support with Chelsey Gilbert, LMTSome things the talking mind cannot reach. Some tension that has lived in your body for so long it has started to feel like just who you are. Chronic tightness, pain that keeps returning, a nervous system that will not settle no matter how much you rest.

This is exactly what hands-on bodywork is for.

At Circle City Alliance Therapy and Consulting, we offer Myofascial Release, somatic bodywork, energy work, and intuitive guidance through our partnership with Chelsey Gilbert, LMT, Owner of Transformative Journeys Bodywork, a Licensed Massage Therapist and Barnes Myofascial Release Practitioner with nearly ten years of experience working with the body's fascial system, nervous system, and energy field.

Sessions are available in person at our Northwest Indianapolis location. HSA and FSA payments are accepted.

What Is Myofascial Release Massage Therapy?

Getting to the Root of What Your Body Is Holding

Fascia is a type of connective tissue that runs through your entire body, from head to toe, through every layer down to the cellular level. It surrounds your muscles, organs, nerves, and bones, and it responds to stress, injury, trauma, and chronic tension by tightening and restricting.

When fascial restrictions develop, they can create pain, limited mobility, postural patterns, and a nervous system that stays stuck in a state of activation. Standard massage techniques work on the muscles. Myofascial Release works with the fascial tissue itself, using gentle sustained pressure to release restrictions at the source.

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release, the specific approach Chelsey is trained in, is one of the most well-regarded MFR methods available. It flows and moves with your body, working with the tissue rather than forcing it, and over the course of regular sessions can produce changes in the structure of the fascial tissue itself.

The results people experience include relief from chronic pain and tension, improved mobility, deeper nervous system regulation, and a qualitative shift in how their body feels to live in.

How Bodywork and Therapy Work Together

A More Complete Approach to Healing

One of the things we believe most deeply at Circle City Alliance Therapy is that healing is not a single-track process. The mind and body are not separate systems. What happens in the nervous system shows up in the tissue. What is released in the tissue affects the nervous system.

For clients who are working with Ethany Michaud, LCSW on trauma, anxiety, depression, or nervous system healing, adding bodywork with Chelsey can support and deepen that process in meaningful ways. Bodywork sessions can help discharge physical tension that builds between therapy sessions, release fascial restrictions that are holding the body in a defensive posture, and support the nervous system in finding more capacity for regulation.

For clients who come to Chelsey first, without a therapy relationship, bodywork often opens doors to deeper self-awareness. Many clients find that as their body begins to release, they become curious about what else might be possible and choose to add therapeutic support alongside their bodywork.

The alliance in our name has always meant something. This is part of what it looks like in practice.
