Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in Indianapolis
If you feel like you’ve been "stuck" in the same painful mental loops for years, you aren't alone. Many of our clients in Indianapolis, Carmel, and Zionsville come to us after traditional antidepressants or talk therapy have failed to provide the relief they need. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a revolutionary, evidence-based treatment that combines the biological power of medicine with the deep healing of somatic and integration therapy.
At CCA Therapy, we provide a safe, professionally guided space to help you break through treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and PTSD. By using Ketamine to temporarily soften the "defensive" layers of the brain, we create a window of neuroplasticity—a time when your brain is literally more flexible and capable of creating new, healthy patterns. We don't just provide a therapy session; we provide a path to lasting nervous system regulation.
Why Choose Ketamine-Assisted Therapy at CCA Therapy?
When searching for Ketamine treatment in Indianapolis, it’s important to understand the difference between a "clinic" and a "therapeutic practice." Many infusion centers offer the medicine alone, but at CCA Therapy, we believe the medicine is the doorway, and the Integration Therapy is the journey.
Our approach is trauma-informed and deeply personalized. We combine the medical breakthroughs of Ketamine with the "bottom-up" healing of Brainspotting and Somatic Therapy. This ensures that the insights you gain during your KAP session don't just fade away—they become part of your daily life. Whether you are struggling with a "frozen" nervous system or the heavy weight of complex grief, our goal is to help you move from surviving to thriving.
Our Collaborative Co-Care Model with Integrative MLA
At CCA Therapy, we believe that the safest and most effective results in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) come from a "team" approach. We have partnered with the medical experts at Integrative MLA to ensure your journey is medically sound, emotionally supported, and deeply transformative.
In this Co-Care model, your healing is overseen by both a trauma-specialized therapist and a medical professional. This ensures that every step of your treatment—from your very first evaluation to your final integration session—is handled with the highest level of care available in Indianapolis.
How the KAP Process Works: Step-by-Step
If you are considering Ketamine treatment in Indianapolis, it is important to know that we prioritize your safety and psychological readiness. We follow a clear, three-phase process designed to protect your nervous system and maximize your breakthrough potential.
Phase 1: Clinical Evaluation & Preparation
Your journey begins at CCA Therapy with a comprehensive Mental Health Evaluation. Ethany will assess your history with trauma, depression, or anxiety to determine if KAP is the right therapeutic tool for your specific needs.
If deemed appropriate, a formal referral will then be made to the medical team at Integrative MLA for a secondary medical evaluation. Once both your therapist and your medical provider have cleared you for treatment, we begin Preparation Sessions at our Indy office. Here, we build your "somatic toolkit," setting intentions and ensuring your mind and body feel ready for the experience.
Phase 2: The Medicine Session
The medicine sessions are conducted under medical supervision. During this time, the Ketamine begins to quiet the Default Mode Network (DMN) in your brain—the part responsible for those "stuck" negative thought loops and "autopilot" behaviors. This quieting creates a window of neuroplasticity, where your brain is more flexible and open to new, healthy ways of processing information.
Phase 3: Integration – Moving Beyond the Experience
The real transformation happens after the medicine. In the days following your session at Integrative MLA, you return to CCA Therapy for Integration Sessions. Because your brain is in a "plastic" state, we use this time to "lock in" your insights. By combining talk therapy with Brainspotting, we help your nervous system move out of a "frozen" survival state and into a place of lasting peace and regulation.
FAQs

KAT is for people who experience the following:
Treatment-Resistant Depression: When traditional therapy and/or antidepressants haven’t improved your symptoms.
Chronic Anxiety: Calming the nervous system’s "fight or flight" response.
PTSD & Trauma: Safely revisiting difficult memories with less emotional "heat."
Existential Distress: Finding meaning during major life transitions or illness.
-
While Ketamine can provide rapid relief from symptoms, the biological effects of the medicine are most powerful when paired with consistent, weekly psychotherapy. We require concurrent therapy throughout the treatment process for three primary reasons:
1. Maximizing the "Neuroplastic Window"
Ketamine triggers the release of glutamate, which stimulates the growth of new neural connections. This creates a state of neuroplasticity—a period where your brain is more flexible and "moldable" than usual.
The Window: This window is most open for about 48 to 72 hours after a session but remains elevated for days.
The Work: Weekly therapy sessions "strike while the iron is hot," using that flexibility to rewire old thought patterns and establish healthier habits that would take much longer to change through talk therapy alone.
2. Integration: Turning "Insights" into "Action"
A Ketamine session can often feel like a dream or a profound internal journey. Without a therapist to help you integrate these experiences, the insights can fade quickly.
Meaning Making: We help you decode the symbols, emotions, or memories that surfaced during your treatment.
Application: We work together to translate "aha!" moments into tangible changes in your daily life, relationships, and self-care.
3. Emotional Safety and Support
The KAT process can sometimes bring suppressed emotions or difficult memories to the surface as your psychological defenses lower.
Stability: Weekly check-ins ensure that you are processing these shifts safely.
Regulation: I provide you with the tools to manage the emotional "opening up" that happens between medical treatments, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

Who is NOT a good candidate for KAT? While highly effective for many, KAT is generally not recommended for individuals with:
Active psychosis or a history of schizophrenia.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure or certain heart conditions.
Active substance use disorder (specifically with ketamine or similar substances).
Pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Because Ketamine Assisted Treatment is a two-part approach, therapists at CCA Therapy only handles the psychotherapy side, while the doctors at Integrative MLA actually prescribe and administer the Ketamine medication under strict observation guidelines to ensure safety. CCA Therapy does not have Ketamine stored on site.

If you are interested in possibly seeking out KAT will need to complete a thorough assessment from our KAT therapist, Ethany Michaud, LCSW. This assessment is the first step. If it is determined that KAT is right for you, then a referral will be made to the prescribing doctors at Integrative MLA, as they handle the medication side of treatment. Dr. Amich and Dr. Pabla will likely complete a consultation with you as well to go over your treatment plan, costs associated with your treatment and the plan for medication administration. Throughout your treatment, individual therapy is required weekly. As your therapist, we will run frequent testing to ensure our intervention is effective and that you are receiving what you need. Your treatment plan will be individually tailored to your needs.
